The memorial before grant works with previous inappropriate works © War Memorials Trust, 2014The memorial located on the south wall of the west porch of the New Kilpatrick Parish Church consists of a three panel decorative wall memorial which is constructed from Caen limestone inset with Carrara marble panels. The centre panel features an inset mosaic cross and has a carved ogee arch which is flanked by fluted pilasters with rose motifs. The flanking panels have carved cusped arches. Each of the panels support a carved cornice.

In 2014 War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £9,107 to help the repair and stabilisation works to the memorial. Works were undertaken to address a range of decay mechanisms which were mainly a result of weather erosion prior to the Poultice treatment of the limestone © Nicloas Boyes Stone Conservation Ltd, 2014west door being fitted at the porch. The deteriorated carved sections of the limestone were consolidated and damage to the limestone and marble caused by graffiti were addressed. Corroded fixing clamps, which were causing movement of the top section of the memorial were removed and replaced with new stainless steel fixings. Defective construction joints of the memorial and the supporting mounting wall were re-pointed and stone cleaning to remove surface soiling was undertaken. Finally the inscription on the central panel, which had been affected previously by un-sympathetic works, was re-painted to match the flanking panels and to improve the legibility.

In 2018 this war memorial received a further grant of £18,580 towards conservation and repair works from War Memorials Trust. Extensive ingress and retention of water caused by the use of cementitious mortars in the pointing of the wall behind the memorial led to salt crystallization and the disaggregation of the stone surface with significant loss of fine carved detailing.

The memorial was unveiled by Sir Iain Consolidation treatment of the limestone © Nicloas Boyes Stone Conservation Ltd, 2014Colquhoun of Luss in 1920. It holds the names of 350 Bearsden parishioners who severed during the First World War, including 48 who gave their lives.

The inscription on the memorial reads:
