This war memorial consists of a Latin cross with a four stepped square plinth. The inscription, on three sides of the plinth, is defined using black enamel paint. The memorial stands within a curved part of a wall with a chain link fence surround. The memorial is dedicated to the men of Broadway who lost their lives during World War I and World War II.
In 2013 War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £593 towards careful dismantling of the memorial shaft and collar off the plinth to remove the ferrous fixings from within the structure, which were causing cracks through the shaft. All traces of rust were to be removed and ferrous fixings to be inserted then the memorial would be reassembled using original materials, a lime mortar and a colour matched resin where required. Unfortunately when the memorial was dismantled it was found that it had been dowelled using a piece of steel water pipe which had been internally grouted using a cement mortar. In order to remove this it was necessary to drill around the rusting pipe one section at a time. the rust was more extensive than originally realised so a section of the memorial shaft was replaced using a colour matched stone on a like-for-like basis with stainless steel dowels and the entire memorial was re-pointed using a hydraulic lime mortar. Finally, the cross was cored to remove remains of the water pipe and it was fixed to the shaft using a resin. The memorial was also cleaned using a DOFF steam cleaning system.
The memorial was constructed by mason, Mr A Ruscombe Emery.
