Alvediston war memorial © A Bristow, 2013This war memorial consists of a wheel cross on a square plinth and a two stepped base. The memorial is constructed of Chilmark stone. The memorial located on the roadside and is incised with a dedication to the memory of the men of Alvediston who fought and those who lost their lives during World War I.

In 2013 War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £1,199 towards conservation works to the memorial. The base stones from the bottom step of the memorial have shifted from their original position leaving large gaps around the joints which was causing problems with water penetration into the structure and the foundations. These stones were re-bedded and Alvediston war memorial © A Bristow, 2013re-layed on a new foundation, with a lime mortar in between the joints. The memorial was also gently cleaned using soft brushes and water, then some of the letters in the inscription were sharpened up where required. Finally, names of those who died whilst fighting in World War II were added to the memorial in the same style and font as the existing.

The memorial was carved by Gething & Co of Chilmark and was dedicated in 1920.
