This memorial consists of a Latin cross with a stone carved sword of sacrifice on the shaft on a two stepped octagonal base located within the grounds of St Marys Church, Friston. The memorial is constructed of limestone. It includes the names of 15 men of the Parish who died in battle during World War I and 7 names of those who died in battle during World War II.
In 2012, War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £615 towards repairs to the stonework, which had begun to shed and fracture in places. The repairs involved piecing in new pieces of identical stone on a minimal basis to reduce the amount of replacement of original fabric. The joints of the memorial were also raked out and re-pointed using a colour-matched lime mortar.
The memorial was constructed by Mr Moss and was dedicated on 22nd May 1920 by Ve. J G R Darling.
The inscription reads:
In tribute of all who fought and in ever constant memory of those who fell in The Great War
August 4th 1914 June 28th 1919
This cross is erected by the inhabitants of Friston
1914-1918
