This war memorial consists of a limestone wheel cross mounted onto a straight octagonal shaft with square base and plinth stones. The memorial is located within St John’s Churchyard in Colston Bassett, Nottinghamshire. The memorial commemorates the fourteen villagers who lost their lives during World War I.
In 2013 War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £212 towards cleaning of the memorial which was heavily colonised with lichen and organic growths that were obscuring the inscriptions on the memorial. The cleaning was undertaken using a DOFF steam cleaning system.
The war memorial was dedicated in 1920.
The inscriptions read:
To the memory of
The men of Colston Bassett
Who gave their lives in
The Great War 1914 - 1919
I have fought the good fight
I have finished my course
I have kept the faith
