Buxton war memorial is a limestone canopied crucifix on a tapered square pillar surmounting a square stone pedestal. The base and plinth of the memorial are built up from a coursed ashlar and rubble stone limestone. The inscriptions on the pedestal of the memorial commemorate the men of Buxton who gave their lives during the First and Second World War.
In September 2012, War Memorials Trust gave a grant of £852.00 towards a structural survey to address the condition of the memorial and assess the level of repair works required.
The memorial was first erected in 1920s through funding raised in the local community and was relocated in the 1930s. Following the Second World War further names were added to the war memorial.
The inscription reads:
“1914-1918
Our Glorious Dead
R.I.P."
"To the glory of God
the churchyard cross was erected
in memory of the men of this Church
and District who gave their lives
1914-1918
their name liveth for evermore"
"In memory of the men and women
of this District who gave their lives
in the Second World War 1939-45”
