Stanton Harcourt war memorial is a market cross located in the Churchyard of St Michael’s. The cross is made of local limestone and is composed of a large two-tiered square base which is surmounted by a chamfered plinth. On the plinth stands the shaft of the cross which is topped by the carved roofed structure with carvings in each face including the crucifixion of Christ. The lettering is incised into both levels of the base. The Church is Grade I listed.
In 2009, War Memorials Trust gave a grant of £1,875 towards repair and conservation works to the memorial. Some of the lettering was difficult to read so the masonry was cleaned with water and non-metallic bristle brushes to improve the legibility. Joints and small masonry cracks were raked out by hand and re-pointed using lime and stone dust mortar where required; stone indent and lime mortar repairs were carried out in damaged areas, two severely damaged sections were replaced in matching limestone and loose stones were re-set.
