Knapton war memorial is situated within St Peter and St Paul’s Churchyard, a Grade I listed building located on The Street within a conservation area. The memorial is granite and comprises a Latin cross on a rough hewn plinth that rests on a stone base. The front face of the plinth is recessed and smoothed to hold the inscription and names of those killed in the First World War. The right face of the plinth has also been recessed and smoothed to hold the inscription and names of the Second World War.
In 2010, a grant of £273 was provided through the Small Grants Scheme towards conservation of the lead lettering as this had become difficult to read. The lettering was cleaned with a mild detergent to remove dirt and original paint residues and any oxidization was removed by fine abrasion. The lettering was rinsed with distilled water prior to the application of two coats of black enamel paint to restore the legibility.
The front face inscription panel reads:
“To the glory of God
and
in proud and grateful memory of
the men of this parish who fell in
the Great War 1914-1918.
Tom Colin Barcham Norfolk Regt
Percy William Swann “ “
George Turner “ “
Douglas Lambert The Buffs.
Albert John Mace Lincolnshire Regt
George Wild Royal Sussex Regt
Robert Christmas Yaxley Royal Field Artillery”
The right face inscription panel reads:

Thomas R. R. Wood D.F.C R.A.F.V.R
Sydney E. Woollsey Q.V.R”.
