The Mytholmroyd war memorial is in the form of a Portland stone figure of a soldier standing on top of a rock shaped stone surmounted on a square stone plinth and is grade II listed. On the rock is a scroll in relief with an incised dedication to the fallen of World War I. Underneath this on the square plinth is a World War II brass plaque. The original head of the soldier was removed in 2000. This was replaced by a stylised head to illustrate that it was not the original. In addition to this the rifle was stolen in the past and had been replaced in fibreglass.
An application to the Grants for War Memorials Scheme was received in 2009. This application was towards work to remove moss and vegetation with wooden spatulas and non metallic brushes followed by the whole memorial being steam cleaned. The brass plaque was also to be cleaned and damaged stonework beneath it to be removed and an indent repair carried out along with re-pointing and the fixing of other areas of loose stone using lime mortar and stainless steel pins. Finally the incised World War I inscription was to be re-painted. The Grants for War Memorials Scheme offered a grant of £1,665. However, due to a decrease in costs, this was reduced to a payment of £1,600 upon completion.
As an extension to the grant funded works the applicants also replaced the head of the sculpture with a replica produced based on historic photographic evidence available. Mytholmroyd war memorial was sculpted by H.S. Davies and it was dedicated in 1922.
