Hollinwood war memorial is located in St Margaret’s Churchyard and is composed of a granite Latin cross with a general dedication to World Wars I and II. Behind the cross and built into the Church wall and using sandstone are the inscription panels with the incised names from World Wars I and II. The names are recorded on two tiers with the bottom layer above two steps and carved into stone panels. The top tier of names is also carved into stone panels but these are recessed within Gothic style stone tracery and columns. The Church is Grade II listed.
In 2011 the Trust offered a grant of £308 towards the conservation and repair of the memorial. The memorial was suffering from typical sandstone deterioration where the face of the stone detaches and comes away; in places this was so severe that names had been lost. The necessary stone repairs included removal of the deteriorated sections of stone and replacement in matching stone with the names carved by hand as original. In areas of stone deterioration which were beyond repair stone indents were used so as to retain the maximum amount of sound original fabric as possible.
The memorial was dedicated on 3rd June 1922. The general dedication on the cross reads:
“To the glory of God
and in memory of
those of this parish
who gave their lives in
The Great War 1914-1919
and in the War 1939-1945”
