Coningsby war memorial is located on the High Street in the town. The memorial consists of an Aberdeen red granite column which is broken at an angle on the shaft; this surmounts three plinths which hold the lead letter inscriptions for the memorial and the whole sits on a Portland stone base.
In 2010, War Memorials Trust gave a grant of £62 towards the cleaning of the stone around the inscriptions with non-metallic brushes and de-ionised water. This facilitated the re-painting of the lead letters in black enamel and for any loose letters to be re-secured to improve the legibility and security of the inscriptions.
The memorial was built in 1921 by Thomas Kent of Boston, Lincolnshire for £150. The memorial was dedicated in September 1921 by Rev. Henry Felix.
A plaque on the memorial reads:
“This memorial was erected in 1921
by public subscription. The design
of the broken column symbolises
a broken life and is a tribute to
all those men from this parish
who made the supreme sacrifice
for our freedom”
The inscriptions on the memorial read:
