Gladestry and Colva war memorial cross © St Mary's PCCThe Gladestry and Colva war memorial cross sits in the churchyard of St Mary's Church.

In 2006 a conservation project was undertaken on the war memorial. Repairs were made to the stone base and both the base and the cross were cleaned. In addition hardlandscaping works were undertaken around the memorial to create a level, flat paved area around the memorial. This assisted those visiting the memorial by improving the access and making the area safer. War Memorials Trust provided a grant of £500.

Other funders who supported the project included family members of those recorded on the war memorial. Many of those attended a thanksgiving service held at St Mary's following the completition of works.

Originally the local community had begun a public collection for a war memorial in 1917. At a service in 1919, led by The Lord Bishop of Swansea, the war memorial cross was dedicated alongside oak gates and a stained glass window by the font in the church which were also installed as war memorials by the community.
