The war memorial in the village of West Acre, on the River Nar in west central Norfolk, is a coarse millstone grit wheel cross on a pillar on a base and a double step. The structure stands on a round sloping base in a square gravelled area surrounded by a kerb. There is a dedicatory plaque on the base. The memorial is situated on the village green.
In June 2006 English Heritage and the Wolfson Foundation gave a grant of £973 towards work to repair and conserve the memorial, including re-laying the kerb, raking out and re-pointing joints and stone cracks and cleaning the memorial with water and masonry biocide.
The plaque attached to the front of this memorial as part of the work (although not funded by this grant) reads
Erected in memory of the men
from West Acre, East Walton
and Gayton Thorpe who gave
their lives for their country in
the two World Wars of 1914-1918
and 1939-1945. Their names are
inscribed on a memorial in the
church of All Saints, West Acre
After the work was finished the memorial was rededicated at the Remembrance Day service on 9th November 2008
