Wainfleet All Saints war memorial © Wainfleet All Saints Town Council, 2007This Grade II listed memorial is an Ancaster stone triumphal arch, the gateway to Northolme cemetery. It stands on Spilsby Road in Wainfleet All Saints, a port and market town in eastern Lincolnshire. The archway is constructed of limestone and has four pillars on the front with decorated capitals, between which are marble plaques inscribed with the names of the fallen of World War I. The dates 1914 and 1918 are carved in low relief in the spandrels on the front of the memorial. The large stone block at the top of the memorial is carved with a dedication. There are iron gates across the gateway and a plaque commemorating the fallen of World War II is hung within the arch.

In 2006/7, English Heritage and the Wolfson Foundation gave £1,600 towards work to clean the memorial, to replace damaged areas of stone and to rake out and re-point the joints where necessary.

WM1848 Wainfleet All Saints before works © Wainfleet All Saints Town Council, 2017 In 2018, a further grant was awarded through War Memorials Trust Grants scheme supported by the First World War Memorials Programme, of £2,560. This assisted works which included steam and hand cleaning with the appropriate technique used in different areas. Stone and concrete repairs we undertaken including consolidation with nanolime where that was appropriate. Open joints were re-pointed with lime mortar.

The gateway was built in 1920 by a local stonemason called Henry Wood, and unveiled on 18th July 1920. The dedication on the block on the top of the memorial reads

"Erected in memory of the men of Wainfleet
All Saints who fell in the Great War"

The World War II plaque inside the arch reads

"Also
in memory of
the men who fell
in the
Second World War
of
1939 – 1945

Avison, Douglas
Coles, John H.
Kirk, Joseph
Reeves, Kenneth B.
