The World War I memorial plaque in the church of St Edmund King and Martyr in the village of Assington in southern Suffolk is made of marble and has an integral moulded frame and a lunette on the top surface. A laurel wreath is carved in the lunette. The memorial is on the wall beside a window at the east end of the north aisle. It is approximately 5ft by 2.5 ft.
In April 2006 War Memorial Trust gave a grant of £221.75 towards work to clean the memorial, re-paint the lettering and apply microcrystalline wax to protect it from further damage.
The memorial was unveiled during a church service in January 1920 led by Rev. H F Banham. The service was attended by the bereaved as well as ex-servicemen. The memorial was designed by Mr. Basil Oliver and made by Mr. Joseph Armitage of London. The inscriptions read
