The memorial is a life size bronze statue of a serviceman which is erected upon a octagonal sandstone column within a small paved area. There are five metal plaques attached to the column.
The memorial stands at the junction of Chapel Street and The Skaithe in Slaidburn, near Clitheroe.
A grant of £2,500 was given to address issues with the central drainage system of the monument. The hollow in the centre of the column was blocked and water was leaking out of the side joints between the blocks of stone. The statue was removed and the water drainage system within the stonework was investigated. Once the blockage was cleared a new plastic pipe was inserted into the centre of the column and out through the paving to allow proper drainage. The column was re-pointed using hydraulic lime mortar and the statue put back.
The memorial is attributed to Fritz Roselieb (Frederick Louis Roslyn). It was unveiled in 1923 and is grade II listed.
Those commemorated come from Slaidburn, Dunsop, Newton and Dalehead.
