Crowle war memorial © Crowle Parish Council, 2009The memorial in the churchyard of the central Worcestershire village of Crowle, on the north side of St. John the Baptist church, is made of Portland stone and takes the form of a wheel cross on a plinth and a three-stepped base. In the centre of the cross is a carved in relief the letters IHS as a monogram. There is flush lead lettering on the base.

In 2008/9 English Heritage and the Wolfson Foundation offered £1,500 towards work to rub off the lichen and apply biocide, clean the memorial, remove the damaged letters, recut letters and fill them with lead and paint them black.

The inscription on the front face of the plinth reads

and

The World War II inscription reads

The memorial was dedicated on 19th July 1919, and the stonemason was Browns of Worcester. One of the villagers remembered the cross being brought from Worcester, five miles away, by horse and cart. An army band from Norton Barracks, Worcester, marched from the local pub through the village to the church and the sound of the band filled the little church.
