The war memorial of the village of Freshford, outside Bath, is a limestone obelisk topped by a bronze sculpture of a flame, standing on a plinth and a three-stepped base. There are slate plaques on the front of the plinth and the top step; that on the plinth is rectangular with a lunette, within which is engraved a cross pattee, and that on the step is a long rectange. The memorial stands on a verge at the roadside by the entrance to the cemetery on The Tyning, behind a low metal post and chain fence.
In 2008/9 English Heritage and the Wolfson Foundation gave £720 towards work to clean the memorial, cut out and replace the perished stone pieces and clean out and re-point all open joints. The slate name panels were cleaned and the lettering repainted.
The inscription on the front face of the plinth reads
"To the men of Freshford
Who fell in the Great War 1914 -1919
Their name liveth for evermore"
There is also a list of names of the World War I fallen.
On the top step the plaque reads
"1939 -1945
P.S.Y. Garrett Ayrshire Yeomanry P.A. McEvoy Mercantile Marine
C.C. McEvoy Norfolk Regt. S.F. Smith Royal Engineers"
The memorial was originally dedicated on 18th April 1922 by the rector of Bath Abbey and unveiled by the Marquis of Bath.
