Park Community School war memorial pavillion before work © Park Community School 2006The World War I memorial at Park Community School in Barnstaple, north Devon, is a sports pavilion. It is a single storey timber framed structure on masonry piers, with a pitched roof. An open porch runs along the front of the building.

Park Community School war memorial pavillion before work © Park Community School 2006In June 2006 War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £1500 towards the costs of works to strengthen the foundations of the pavilion, replace rotten boarding and rotten wood around the windows and to repaint the whole pavilion.

Park Community School war memorial plaque  © Park Community School 2005The pavilion was opened in 1922 as a memorial to the boys of Barnstaple Grammar School who fell in the Great War. The plaque on the pavilion reads

Park Community School war memorial after work © Park Community School 2007The roll of honour that was originally in the pavilion was moved into the school building at the beginning of the twenty first century to prevent damage by damp.
