Tormarton war memorial is a stone cross pattée (where the arms of the cross become narrower towards the centre, and wider towards the edges), which surmounts an octagonal plinth on a two-stepped base. The memorial is located in the Churchyard of St Mary’s, Church Road, Tormarton. The memorial is located within the curtilage of the grade I listed Church.
War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £362 towards conservation and repair works to the memorial. Weathering of the memorial (particularly on the Western elevation) and lichen growth had resulted in some of the inscriptions on the memorial becoming illegible. Therefore, the memorial was gently cleaned with water and non-metallic brushes to remove the lichen and any surface dirt. The letters were re-cut where required, and repainted using black enamel paint to increase legibility.
