Nantglyn war memorial is a granite obelisk surmounting a concrete base on the sides of which there are slate plaques on which the inscriptions of the memorial are incised, and painted. As well as the inscriptions to those commemorated on the memorial, there are also two badges which contain the Welsh dragon, and Welsh feathers as well as a cross carved into the stone and painted. The memorial is surrounded by metal railings and is located in a conservation area.
In 2009, War Memorials Trust gave a grant of £1,449 towards conservation and repair works to the memorial. This work included tests to determine the appropriate means of cleaning the memorial, the surface of the slate plaques were rubbed with a fine pumice stone and all the inscriptions were repainted in white enamel as per the original as these had faded. The Welsh dragon and Welsh feathers badges along with the cross were also repainted in their original colours. The railings which surround the memorial were sanded down and repainted silver as original. All the open joints of the memorial and cracks in the concrete were re-pointed in hydraulic lime and a compatible sand mix to make the memorial watertight.
The memorial commemorates those who were killed, as well as those who served from the area.
This memorial was funded by Captain and Colonel Wynne-Edwards of Plas Nantglyn. They are recorded on the memorial under those who ‘served’ (A Wasanaethodd).
