This war memorial is in the shape of a cross with a relief of Christ in the centre. It stands on two-stepped base and is surrounded by a flowerbed.
It is located at the road junction of Noble Tree Road with Tonbridge Road in Hildenborough, Kent.
War Memorials Trust gave a grant of £700 towards this project. The works undertaken included cleaning algae from the stone with water and bristle brushes, re-pointing in hydraulic lime mortar and re-cutting the inscriptions.
The memorial was designed by H. Burke Downing and was dedicated in October 1920. He was a well known arts and crafts designer and it is very similar to another memorial of his in Merton, London. The cross weighs six and a half tons and was hauled into place by a local man with a traction engine business.
It is dedicated to those who fell in World War I and II. The inscription reads:
Lift
Up your hearts
Remember the comrades
Who gave their lives
In the Great War 1914-1919
Grant them O Lord eternal rest
Let light perpetual shine on them
1939-1945
