This war memorial is made from granite. It has a two stepped base and plinth surmounted by tapering shaft and wheel cross, with a bronze sword on the front. It is located on land adjacent to St Leonard’s Church, Eynsham, Oxfordshire.
War Memorials Trust gave a grant of £1967 for works to the memorial and landscape. The granite was cleaned with water and soft bristle brushes, and biocide applied to keep algae at bay. The bronze sword was cleaned with ph-neutral soap and water. Some joints needed re-pointing with lime mortar and missing lead letters were replaced. The landscaping works included re-laying paving, edging flower beds and laying shingle.
It is dedicated to 50 men from World War I and 18 from World War II. The land the memorial is located on was purchased through a subscription fund from the nearby Public House.
The inscription reads:
To the glory of God
and
In proud memory of
The following officers
Non-commissioned officers
And men of the parish
Who gave their lives
In the Great War
1914-1918
