Hornchurch WJ Bearblock war memorial plaque © A Bradbury 2009St Andrew's Church on the High Street in Hornchurch contains a number of war memorial plaques. One of those is dedicated to Walter James Bearblock MRCS LRCP who died in the First World War. The memorial plaque to Fleet Surgeon Bearblock is made of brass with red and black infill in the engraving.

In 2003 War Memorials Trust gave a grant £250 towards the restoration and re-erecting of four memorial plaques in the Church including that to Walter James Bearblock. This represents a grant of £62.50 specifically for the individual plaque. During restoration the plaque was cleaned, waxed and rebated into a Cedar Board.

Eltisley war memorial © R Leach 2009Originally hung on the South wall of the Church the memorials had been removed when refurbishment took place and subsequently stored. The grant assisted with their rehanging within the Church and a rededication service took place at a special service on 14 November during which the memorials were on display in the Chancery.

The other memorials are WM1072 to F J W Chester who fell in the South African war 1900, and two others who fell in World War I WM3218 Charles Henry Bearblock (Walter's nephew) and WM3220 G W Franklyn.

This memorial is a product of the Army and Navy Auxiliary Co-operative Society Ltd London.
