This memorial is located in the centre of Longstock village in Hampshire. It is in the shape of a stone wheel cross on three stepped base with inscriptions cut into the base. It was designed by the architect to Winchester Cathedral, Mr Atkinson and was erected in 1919.
The Parish Council wanted to have the memorial conserved for the 90th anniversary of the armistice of WWI. The main issues were the heavy soiling on the stone, growth of moss and algae and some minor cracks. War Memorials Trust gave a grant of £560 to clean the memorial with water and bristle brushes and then biocide was applied. The cracks were filled in with a lime mortar and some of the lettering re-incised.
The inscription reads:
In remembrance
of the men of
Longstock
who served their
country as sailors
& soldiers in the
war of 1914-1919
Nobly they did their duty
