This war memorial is in the form of a large granite plaque on a limestone wall with moulded coping. There are iron railings and stone gateposts in front. It is located at the junction of Oakes Lane and Brockholes Lane, in Brockholes, Holmfirth, West Yorkshire.
The main issues with the memorial were that the iron railings were badly corroded and rusted, the paving was cracked and various sections of stone needed repairing. There was also a need for re-pointing throughout. War Memorials Trust gave a grant of £2,260 to carry out these works.
The war memorial was initially dedicated to those from WWI and names from WWII were subsequently added.
The inscription reads:
To the glory of God
And in proud and grateful memory of our
Many sons who served in the European war
Who gallant number these came not again
