Dunton Bassett war memorial before work © Dunton Bassett PC, 2008Dunton Bassett war memorial is a Celtic cross constructed of local stone quarried at Croft Quarry. The memorial stands on Church Lane adjacent to the entrance to the church. An inscription and names are found on the cross and following the Second World War a slate plaque was added to the rear wall to remember the Fallen of that conflict.

In 2008 War Memorials Trust contributed £315 to the re-gilding of the names on, re-pointing and cleaning using low pressure water and bristle brushes of, the cross. The grant also covered water and bristle brush cleaning and re-gilding of the Second World War plaque.

The memorial cross is of a standard design by Kelly and Co. It was erected by Arthur Baum a monumental mason from Broughton Astley, Lesicestershire. The memorial cost £144.16.0 and the funds were raised by donations, fundraising events in the village and the support of Major H. H. Robertson Aikman the local landowner. The memorial was unveiled by Mrs Robertson Aikman on 24th January 1920.
