In Stoke Ash the war memorial stands in All Saints Churchyard on Church Lane. It commemorates the one man lost from the village, Pte Joseph Archie Moss. The memorial is a stone obelisk.
In 2000 the Small Grants Scheme contributed £150 towards a conservation project. The memorial was leaning and the lettering becoming obscured. Remedial work was undertaken to return the monument to an upright position and ensure the inscription could be read.
Of the 44 men of Stoke Ash who left to fight in the Great War on Pte. Moss did not return. He died aged 24 in July 1917. He was awarded the Military Medal. The memorial was erected in 1921 in remembrance of his sacrifice.
The inscription on the memorial reads:
To the
Glory of God
and in
proud and grateful
memory of
Pte. Joseph Archie
Moss. M.M.,
who fell in the
Great War. (1917)
