Stone war memorial © K. Well 2009Stone war memorial in the Recreation Ground on London Road is a granite Stone of Remembrance. A two tiered memorial stands atop a two step base.

War Memorials Trust gave £50.00 towards the cleaning of Stone war memorial in 1999.

The Stone of Remembrance was erected in 1989 to replace a deteriorating First World War Memorial near the river (UKNIWM reference 16372).

To the memory of
all
from this District
who
lost their lives
in
defence of freedom
Their name liveth
for evermore
At the going down of the sun
and in the morning we will remember them
