Plymouth Hoe Falklands memorial at unveiling © HMS Ardent Association, 1990A war memorial stone in Belvedere Memorial Garden on Plymouth Hoe is the only public monument in the area which lists the names of all the maritime personnel who died in the South Atlantic Falklands War in 1982. Four stainless steel plaques recorded the inscription and names.

Unfortunately the original plaques used deteriorated. It was necessary to replace them and War Memorials Trust gave £150.00 towards the cost of producing new plates, engraving them to a greater depth than the originals and then applying an enamelling process to the lettering and graphics.

The memorial was unveiled on 7th July 1988 by the Lord Mayor of Plymouth.

The inscription reads:

This memorial is dedicated to the members of
The Royal Navy, The Royal Marines,
The Royal Fleet Auxiliary and The Merchant Navy
whose names are recorded here
They gave their lives in the service of this country
and for the defence of freedom in
the Falkland Islands and The South Atlantic
1982
