Cheltenham war memorial © S. Williams, 2009The St Peters Church First World War memorial is a cross constructed of local stone on an octagonal base. A bronze laurel wreath is afixed to the shaft of the cross. The memorial sits in the Churchyard of St Peter's Church.

In 1998 a conservation project was undertaken. War Memorials Trust contributed £250 towards restoration and cleaning of the stonework. But money to replace the fading names was still being raised.

In 2018 War Memorials Trust gave a grant of £15,210 towards the undertaking of conservation works. The memorial was cleaned using a steam cleaning system. In addition, loose and failing mortar was raked-out from the construction joints which were then repointed using a lime mortar. Repairs to the damaged stone detailing were undertaken using a lime mortar. The name panels to the memorial base had eroded making the names illegible and so these were replaced to exactly replicate the original design to ensure that this record was conserved. Damaged stone steps were also replaced t exactly match the original design. A dedication inscription at the base of the memorial was sharpened and deepened to improve its legibility. The bronze work was cleaned using steam cleaning followed by the application of a protective microcrystalline wax. The later concrete surround to the memorial was damaged and was directing rainfall into the base of the memorial and so this was lifted and replaced with a permeable membrane and gravel enclosed with a steel edge.

The inscription on the memorial reads:

Lest we forget 1914 - 1919
Greater love hath no man than this
