Cowpen war memorial is a statue of a World War I soldier on top of a column commemorating the names of 75 local men who died in the two World Wars. It stands at the junction of Briardale and Cowpen roads in Cowpen.
In 1998 it was recognised that the soldier figure had become chipped and holes had appeared in the stone probably due to effects of severe weather. His carved rifle was also missing. War Memorials Trust contributed £200.00 to conservation work which also saw the rifle replaced free of charge by the monumental sculptors.
The inscriptions on the memorial read:
To the memory
of the men of
Cowpen and district
who made the
supreme sacrifice
in the Wars of
1914 - 1918 and 1939 – 1945
Their name liveth for evermore
