The war memorial in the village of Newton Valence, in the South Downs, east Hampshire, stands in the churchyard of St. Mary the Virgin. The red sandstone memorial consists of a cross on a tapering square shaft on a plinth with an octagonal four-stepped base. There are inscriptions on the plinth.
In July 2001 War Memorials Trust gave £25 towards cleaning and re-pointing the memorial.
Underneath an inscribed cross pattee the dedication on the plinth reads
In honoured memory of the
brave men of Newton Valence
who gave their lives for God
King and Country in the
Great War A.D. 1914 – 1918
"So they passed over & all the trumpets
sounded for them on the other side"
There are names from World War I inscribed on two faces of the plinth and names from World War II are on the fourth face.
