Queen Elizabeth School, Middleton war memorial © C B Colson, 2010Queen Elizabeth Grammar School stood on Hollin Lane in Middleton, Manchester. It was demolished and replaced by St Anne’s Academy which opened in September 2007. However, in 2003, whilst still Queen Elizabeth’s, a new war memorial was unveiled. The memorial wall with plaques remembers students of the school lost in both World Wars. It stands at the entrance to St Anne’s Academy.

In 2001 War Memorials Trust offered £250 towards the erection of the memorial which was completed in 2003.

Literature produced by “The Old Elizabethan’s Association” records how in September 1939 Queen Elizabeth Grammar School had 260 pupils. Of those 36 were lost during the Second World War.
