The memorial in the village of Ferring on the West Sussex coast is a plain rough stone cross on a double plinth, the top plinth being of rough stone and the bottom being polished stone. It sits on a two stepped base, the higher step being of the same stone as the lower plinth. There are inscriptions on the front polished face of the higher plinth and on the front and side faces of the lower plinth. It stands in front of a garden of remembrance and a flagpole and is situated at a focal point in the north of the village, at the junction of Ferring Street and Sea Lane.
In September 2002 War Memorials Trust gave £250 towards hard landscaping works around the memorial. Specific work was done to raise the level of the paved area surrounding the memorial to match the pavement and to level it away towards the garden of remembrance behind to disperse water from this low-lying site as standing water was starting to become a problem. Two flower beds were filled in and the whole area repaved, making access for wheelchairs and the congregation at Remembrance Day services easier. A new fence was constructed behind the garden.
The inscription on the upper plinth reads:
"In honoured memory of
W. C. Bagot Chester Capt. 3rd Ghurkas
W. A. Bennett R.N.R.
R. A. Hoare Rifle Brigade
G. Kilham King’s R. Rifles
J. Winton East Yorks.
who gave their lives in the Great War
1914 – 1918"
The inscription on the front face of the lower plinth reads:
Also in honoured memory of
W. F. Barton
G. D. Chiswell
A. G. Fance
J. E. Gordon
D. C. Graham
A.W. Heath
R. Holman
J. R. Kennedy
R. J. Lee
who gave their lives in the 1939 – 1945 war"
On two sides of the lower plinth are more World War II names:
"E. E. F. Letts
P. Lush
R. M. B. Mayles
W. E. Murrell
R. Nugent
W. T. G. Peckham
D. J. Slaughter

"P. R. Spencer
R. H. M. Spencer
N. Stagg
I. H. D. Stone
E. Tennant

The memorial was created by Francis Tate in 1922 and consecrated by Rev Hector William Grepe. Two urns that previously stood either side of the memorial were given after the Great War in memory of James Avenal.
