Great Hatfield war memorial stands on The Green in the village. The obelisk is made of Portland stone and stands on a plinth and base. Names and an inscription are carved on the plinth.
War Memorials Trust gave £250 to a project in 2002 to relocate the memorial. Originally sited at the junction of Main Street and Hull Road the village wished to move the memorial to a more central location surrounded by a new notice board, seating and an area in which to hold Remembrance Sunday services. Having been knocked down twice in its original site a new location was necessary and moving the memorial was an opportunity to rectify a lean that had occurred over the years and protect the memorial from the pollutants to which it was vulnerable in its original location.
The memorial was unveiled in 1919, The names of the one fallen is recorded alongside those who served. The inscription reads:
Hatfield
1914 – 1919
War memorial
What mean ye by these stones?
These shall be for a memorial forever
