2nd Lt Edward Bonvalot war memorial © D Nicol 2009A Sundial in the memorial gardens of Downton, Wiltshire commemorates 2nd Lt Edward Bonvalot. The sundial is constructed of York stone surrounded with brass plaques upon which the dedication is inscribed.

In 2003 the memorial received a grant of £250 towards the rebuilding and relocation of the memorial as it had fallen into disrepair.

The memorial was originally unveiled on 5th August 1922.

In honoured and loving memory of Edward St Laurent Bonvalot, Second Lieutenant Coldstream Guards,
Who fell in action at Loos in the Great War, October 8th 1915
This Garden is presented to Downton by his mother Emily Bonvalot of Wick House
O valiant dead take comfort where you lie. So sweet to live? Magnificent to die!
