Wellow war memorial cross is made of granite with metal plaques and inscribed black lettering. The memorial stands on Romsey Road having previoulsy been located in the churchyard of St Margaret's (where the original base remains with a plaque).
In 2007 the memorial needed to be moved due to traffic accidents damaging it and its uneven position. It was moved further back from the road to a safer spot and the surrounding area was levelled which ensures those visiting the memorial can do so more easily. Whilst this work was undertaken repairs and improvements were added with new corner pillars, landscaping to the surrounding area and the addition of two new benches. War Memorials Trust contributed £1,500 to the project.
The memorial was originally erected in the 1920's rememebring the fallen of the Great War. The names of the fallen of the Second World War were added in 1946. And a casualty of the Malayan emergency is also remembered.
