Fortrose and Rosemarkie war memorial © I Davidson 2009Fortrose and Rosemarkie war memorial takes the form of a lychgate with memorial plaques. In addition, a small garden of remembrance provides an area for reflection. The site is on the grounds of the derelict Fortrose Cathderal.

A small derelict site next to the local war memorial had had been an eyesore for over 80 years and detracted from the dignity of the memorial. In 2003, War Memorials Trust gave £200 towards the cost of a significant development. The garden was bounded by red sandstone walls, Caithness flagstones were used to create a curved bench type seat and to make a forecourt area incorporating a Celtic cross. Cast steel bollards surround the forecourt and a flagpole is positioned at its apex. The coat of arms of The Royal Borough of Fortrose made up of brightly coloured mosaic tiling is inset in the back wall.Fortrose and Rosemarkie war memorial © H Keir 2009
