The war memorial cross stands in the Churchyard of St Michael in Brantham in Essex. It is constructed of stone and takes the Latin form.
In 2003 a grant of £250 was made towards conservation including repairing and re-lettering. The war memorial was suffering from chemical and biological attacks that were gradually decaying the stonework. The work included chemical cleaning of the algae/lichens with a biocide designed to prevent sequestration of calcium, gentle removal of deposits, localised re-pointing, a small amount of re-cutting letters, then applying a shelter coat incorporating an algicide and antioxidants to protect the memorial in the medium-long time.
The memorial was unveiled on 27th March 1921. It records the Fallen of both the World Wars.
The inscription reads
In memory of God
and
in thankful Remembrance
of the
Men of Brantham
who gave their lives
in the Great War
1914-1918
