Lasswade and Rosewell war memorial hall is an attractive building with a brick plinth and quoins, framing roughcast walls with painted timber truss details. The roof is covered in red Roman clay tiles. There is a later extension to the rear which is flat felt covered. The rainwater goods are cast iron painted black. The memorial hall is located within the grounds of Rosewell Parish Church on Duke Street.
In 2017 War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £13,110 for conservation and repair works. The roof of the hall was starting to allow water to ingress into the building which was causing damage. On inspection of the existing tiles it was evident that these had started to break down, in addition the roof slope had become uneven and this had led to the breakage of tiles. The grant funding has assisted in stripping the old roof and replacing it on a like for like basis.
Lasswade and Rosewell war memorial hall was built in 1932 to serve the dual purpose of Church Hall and the war memorial. It contains brass plaques listing the parish’s fallen in the two World Wars.
The inscription on the outside of the hall reads:
To the glory of God
and in memory
of the men of this parish
who gave their lives in the
Great War 1914-1918
Erected 1932
