Clifton war memorial is located at Clifton Parish Church, Water Lane, Clifton, York. This memorial is in the form of a floriated Maltese Portland limestone cross on a tapering octagonal shaft The incised and painted black inscription on the plinth commemorates those who died in World War I. It is Grade II listed by virtue of being within the curtilage of the listed church and located in Clifton Conservation Area.
In 2016 a grant of £6,490 was awarded through War Memorials Trust Grants Scheme towards cleaning with water and bristle brushes, sharpening and deepening and painting black the inscription to improve the legibility of the inscription.
A meeting was called in 1918 to propose a memorial cross. An estimate of £195 by Mr Milburn was accepted. The memorial was unveiled by Lt Gen Sir Ivor Maxse and the Guard of Honour was composed of men of the 1st Battalion The West Yorkshire Regiment.
