This granite war memorial comprises a square stone base and plinth surmounted by Celtic cross with tapering shaft. The plinth carries and inscription and names of the fallen within a recessed panel. The memorial is located on the High Street of Little Waltham.
In 2016 War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £270 towards the undertaking of conservation works to clean the memorial using natural bristle brushes and a chemically neutral soap. In addition, loose and failing mortar was raked-out from the memorials joints which were then repointed using a lime mortar.
The memorial was constructed in 1922. A committee of local residents was formed in 1919 to collect money to fund the construction of the memorial and the memorial hall which stands at Brook Hall, Little Waltham. A 1928 letter from the land owner Mr W Campen stating that he wished to gift the site to the Parish Council. After World War II, seven local names of the Fallen from this conflict were added to the memorial.
The inscription reads:
Little Waltham/ To The Honoured Memory Of These Men/ Who Fell In The Great War, 1914-1919/ (Names)/ Also/ To The Memory Of The Men/ And Women Of This Parish/ Who Gave Their Lives In The/ War Of 1939-1945/ (Names)
