Skipsea before works © Skipsea Parish Council 2016 Skipsea war memorial is located on the Village Green on Main Road in Skipsea, East Yorkshire. The memorial is a polished red granite obelisk with a granite urn atop a three-stepped stone plinth on a concrete base. It is surrounded by a metal railing. The incised inscription on the plinth is gilded and commemorates those who died in both World Wars.

In 2016 a grant of £1,220 was offered through  War Memorials Trust Grants Scheme, supported by First World War Memorials Programme, towards repair and conservation works. The memorial was cleaned with steam and the lettering re-gilded in-line with the historic evidence to improve the legibility of the lettering. It was also re-pointed with lime mortar to prevent water ingress. The metal railings were protected with SmartWater as part of the In Memoriam 2014 project.

Skipsea after works © Skipsea Parish Council 2016The memorial was constructed by Messrs King and Co Ltd of Hull. A parish meeting was held in March 1919 to discuss plans to erect a war memorial. Following this, a committee was formed and the memorial was unveiled on 28th June 1919. Skipsea dedication service 1919 © Skipsea Parish Council
