The memorial stands on land that was by St Michael and all Angels’ Church to Harbledown and Common Parish council for the purpose of erecting this memorial c.1919. It is a grey granite wheel cross surmounting a rock-faced grey granite plinth and base with inscription panel to front and right face of plinth. The memorial is surrounded by a concrete platform and fronted by a small terraced garden. A wrought-iron and timber gate giving access to the BRICK steps leading to the memorial carries a sign which reads “GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN”.

In 2016 War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £370 towards works to hand clean the memorial using natural bristle brushes and low pressure water washing and to repaint the lettering using appropriate oil based paint to match original. The original Grant Application proposed the reinstatement of lettering which appeared to be missing however archival research demonstrated that this had in fact been a correction contemporary with the inscription following an error in the original execution demonstrating the need for caution when the correction of names is proposed.

The World War I inscription to the front of the memorial reads:

TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN UNFADING MEMORY OF THE MEN OF HARBLEDOWN WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919 BADDELEY C CLEMENTS CH COOK E CORK F FISHER T GREEN S HASTE W HOLNESS EL HOME WG HPPKER BT IDDENDEN EA JULL J LEGGE AE LOTT W MORRIS CM NORRIS F PEPPER AHC PRICE EA RICHARDS W SADDLETON S SHEPHERD F STREETING W SWALES RA TAYLOR H WELLS WJ WOODCOCK E WOODCOCK HN

On the base of the plinth the inscription reads:

THIS MONUMENT WAS ERECTED BY THEIR FELLOW PARISHONERS

The World War II inscription to the side elevation of the memorial reads:

1939 – 1945 BROCKMAN ES BROCKMAN FL BROCKMAN LH EDWARDS GC GRAY PC HEWITT T KNOTT WH MUNTON GC SIMS G STEVENS TJA WOOD KN
