Valley End war memorial is located at Valley End Road, Valley End, Surrey. This limestone wheel cross is set on a tapering column surmounting a stone plinth with incised lettering on a two-stepped stone base. The initials ‘IHS’ are carved into centre of the head of the cross. The memorial commemorates both World War I and II.
In 2015 a grant of £2,230 was awarded through the War Memorials Trust Grants Scheme towards steam cleaning to improve legibility of the inscriptions, re-pointing in lime mortar and the installation of a new post and chain fence based on historic evidence.
The architect for the memorial was Mr Charles Stanley Kimpton from Sunningdale. The total cost of the memorial was £204.13.9p. The cross was erected by June 1921 and on 12th June 1921 the cross was dedicated by John Randolph, Bishop of Guilford and unveiled by HRH Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll. In 1922 Mr Le Marchant and Mr Elliott designed a garden around the memorial including trenching which was carried out by ex-servicemen at their own expense. There was a path from the road to the memorial which was grassed with a border of heathers. In 1923 a low post and chain fence was erected around the memorial.
