West Kirby war memorial is located within the churchyard of St Bridget’s Church, Church Road, West Kirby, Merseyside. This granite stone memorial is in the form of a wheel cross on a shaft and plinth above a two stepped base. The inscription on the plinth commemorates those who died in World War I. The lettering is raised lead lettering painted black. The memorial is located in the West Kirby Old Village Conservation Area.
In 2015 a grant of £990 was awarded through the War Memorials Trust Grant Scheme towards stone cleaning using steam to remove dirt and make the inscriptions legible. Missing and damaged lead letters were replaced and new letters hand carved to match the original font. The letters were painted black to match the original. Letters were coated with SmartWater, provided by In Memoriam 2014 to deter theft.
The memorial was dedicated in 1923 by Rev Charles Broke Gwynne. The names of those who died are recorded on a tablet in the church.
