The memorial consists of a Celtic cross with decorative relief knot work stone carvings on the cross. The shaft of the cross has an incised commemorative inscription/roll of honour. The cross is surmounted on a square tapered plinth and raised off ground level on a three stepped base. Surrounding the base is a small path of paving. The memorial is located on the village green in Letchmore Heath.
In 2014 a grant of £2,670 was offered for repair and conservation work. Soiling on the memorial was making it more difficult to read the inscriptions on the memorial. In addition are of stonework at the stepped base and on the memorial was in poor condition due to deterioration. The surrounding hard landscaping was also uneven. To address these issues the hard landscaping was lifted and re-laid with a lime mortar, areas of deteriorated stone were carefully cut out and replacement like-for-like stone was fixed in place. Finally the memorial was cleaned with water and bristle brushes.
It has been ascertained from historical copies of the Aldenham Parish Council minutes that the memorial was built in approximately 1922. The land which the memorial was built on was owned by a Mr G Miller he was paid £15 of this. The funds to build the memorial were raised by the local residents.
