Llantwit Major war memorial is located on Church Street and takes the form of a cross. The memorial is composed of a stepped base surmounted by a plinth, shaft and Celtic cross. The inscriptions appear on plaques fixed to the plinth and are incised in a stone tablet shaped like a book to the front of the memorial.
In 2014 War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £2,370 towards the conservation of this memorial. The inscription on the memorial, and in particular the stone tablet, had loss legibility due to weathering, in total about 142 words needed re-engraving. Where the letters were no longer legible they were sharpened on an individual basis using hand tools.
Llantwit Major war memorial was erected in 1921 and the cross unveiled to commemorate the fallen of the First World War. The sandstone prayer book was erected under the cross between 1947 and 1948 and dedicated to the fallen of the Second World War.
