Evesham war memorial is a curved limestone screen situated in Abbey Park, Worcestershire. At its centre, the memorial has a pedestal topped by a bronze sculpture of a soldier wearing a helmet and carrying a rifle. The pedestal also features a bronze wreath and bronze plaque, along with two bronze plaques either side of this on the curved screen inscribed with the names of the men that fought and died in the First and Second World Wars, and commemorative inscriptions.
In 2014 a grant of £2,500 was offered through the Small Grants Scheme towards making the memorial accessible and undertaking repair and conservation work. The cracked paving slabs at the base of the memorial have been replaced with a resin bonded surface and the steps have been removed, with ramped access created by increasing the height of the path that runs in front of the memorial. The kerbs around the paths were repaired using lime mortar and stone to match the original. The stone was cleaned using low pressure steam cleaning methods.
The bronze sculpture of the soldier is the work of Henry Poole R.A. and features details such as a cigarette end behind the ear and a rat-bitten haversack. The inscription on the memorial gives 1920 as the date of the end of the war, as soldiers from the Worcestershire Regiment went on to fight in Russia where peace was not declared until 1920. The unveiling and dedication of Evesham war memorial took place on 7th August 1921 and was attended by the Earl of Coventry.
